Calf died in fire in stable building

Attentive neighbors noticed that a fire had broken out in a stable in St. Roman on Saturday night. Despite the rapid intervention of around 60 firefighters, a calf could only be recovered dead. The occupants of the farm suffered smoke inhalation.

At 1.19 a.m. the sirens sounded in St. Roman: The Aschenberg, Kössldorf, Rain and St. Roman fire departments were alerted to a farm fire in the village of Kössldorf. 

One young cattle died
According to a local newspaper report, straw and calf pens may have caught fire. Although the firefighters were able to extinguish the flames quickly, one calf could not be rescued and another young animal had to be treated by a vet on site. Four animals were rescued by the emergency services and taken outside.

Heat lamp as the cause of the fire
The occupants of the farm - a 78-year-old man and a 60-year-old woman - suffered smoke inhalation and were taken to hospital by the emergency services. The emergency services removed the charred fire debris from the building with a front loader in order to extinguish it completely. The cause of the fire was probably a short circuit in the area of a heat lamp.
