How the USA is secretly researching the perfect deepfake

Deepfakes pose a threat to democracy. Accordingly, many governments are making great efforts to take action against AI-generated content - at least outwardly. Behind the scenes, however, active research is sometimes being carried out into technologies to create content that is indistinguishable from reality.

"Whether it's DALL-E 3, face filters on TikTok and Instagram or DeepFaceLab: technologies that enable the manipulation of videos and images are booming, are increasingly easy to access and mark a turning point for many people when it comes to trusting digital content. How can you tell what's real when the fakes are increasingly realistic?" is how the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT) outlines the problem.
