Worker (25) buried under pile of scrap cars

A 25-year-old man from the Leibnitz district died in a work accident in Gersdorf an der Mur, Styria, on Thursday. Three stacked scrap cars fell on the young man as he was standing next to a forklift truck.

The accident occurred at around 2.30 p.m. on Thursday at a company in Gersdorf an der Mur in the Leibnitz district. The 25-year-old was driving a forklift truck to place containers of scrap metal in a storage area. Three scrap cars were also stacked on top of each other in this storage area.

The young man may have stepped off the forklift truck. For unknown reasons, the stack of three pressed scrap cars toppled over and buried the 25-year-old underneath it.

Emergency doctor could only determine death
After some time, his work colleagues realized that something had happened. They freed the young Styrian and administered first aid. The emergency doctor and the rescue service arrived by helicopter, but unfortunately too late. They could only determine that he had died. The labor inspectorate and the crisis intervention team were on site and further investigations are necessary, according to the police.
