Unigroup closes the logistics warehouse in Seiersberg

Bitter news from the Unigroup: the food logistics warehouse in Seiersberg will be closed at the end of February 2025, 91 employees will be given notice of redundancy at the AMS. In future, there will only be one central warehouse in Upper Austria.

The crisis in the retail sector has so far largely spared the food sector. But now there is a drastic and bitter change for those affected: as the Upper Austrian Unigroup (which supplies Unimarkt stores and many Nah&Frisch retailers) announced on Thursday, the logistics site in Seiersberg will be closed at the end of February.

Managing Director: "We have examined all options"
91 employees will lose their jobs and will be registered with the AMS, a social plan is planned. "We have examined all options and weighed them up in intensive discussions," said Managing Director Andreas Hämmerle. In the end, the decision was made to rely on a central logistics warehouse in Upper Austria. The second Managing Director Johannes Aumann emphasized: "We have to take painful measures to ensure competitiveness." 

The Unigroup speaks of a structural change in the food retail sector, which is particularly challenging for smaller players. The Unimarkt retail outlets in Styria are to remain open.
