LIVE: Gregoritsch goal! But third division team still leads

SC Freiburg with Michael Gregoritsch has embarrassed itself in the round of 16 of the DFB Cup against third division side Arminia Bielefeld. In the end, even the ÖFB striker's goal was not enough for the Bundesliga club. After 90 minutes, Freiburg deserved to lose 1:3. 

SC Freiburg embarrassed themselves in the DFB Cup and were eliminated in the round of 16 by Arminia Bielefeld. The German Bundesliga club deservedly lost 1:3 (0:2) at the third division club on Tuesday.

A goal from ÖFB team striker Michael Gregoritsch to make it 1-2 (63') was not enough to avert the defeat. VfB Stuttgart easily managed promotion with a 3:0 (2:0) win at second division bottom club SSV Jahn Regensburg.

Christopher Lannert (28'), Julian Kania (36' / penalty) and Louis Oppie (81') scored the euphorically celebrated goals for the hosts, who are increasingly becoming a cup scare on the sold-out Bielefeld Alm. Arminia had already knocked 1. FC Union Berlin, a first division club, out of the competition in the 2nd round.

Outsiders Bielefeld got off to a lively start, but out of nowhere the visitors had a great chance to take an early lead. After Gregoritsch was fouled in the penalty area, Florent Muslija failed to score from the penalty spot (18'). Freiburg's glaring penalty weakness has now spread to the cup. In the Bundesliga, SCF have missed five penalties in a row over the course of the season.

And it got even worse for the favorites, as Bielefeld scored twice before the break. Gregoritsch's header brought new hope. However, Bielefeld remained the better team and took advantage of one of several good scoring chances to decide the game.
