Police ban demonstrations for “peace” in Vienna

The two demonstrations planned for Saturday in Vienna's city center have now been banned by the police. The two events in question were "Peace and neutrality! Against the Zuckerl coalition!" and "Peace and neutrality!". Reason: shopping streets should not be disturbed. 

According to the Vienna police, "the right to freedom of commercial activity of the businesses on Vienna's shopping streets and the interest of the general public in the unimpeded flow of traffic" outweighed the right to assemble. Several protests had been announced for Saturday.

Against forming a government without the FPÖ
Originally, the initiatives "Fairdenken" and "Menschheitsfamilie" had called for a rally on November 9, but postponed it again after massive protests. The organizers advertise with slogans such as "for our Austria" and are against the formation of a government without the FPÖ.

The Vienna police will be on site with sufficient forces to ensure the maintenance of public order and security.

Spontaneous rallies not ruled out
It was initially unclear whether there would be any further authorized gatherings. A counter-demonstration had previously been planned at Schwarzenbergplatz. The police have not ruled out "spontaneous rallies". These could be broken up if necessary. The LPD wants to be prepared: "The Vienna police will be on site with sufficient forces to ensure the maintenance of public order and safety."

Organizers still want to "go for a walk"
 The "Fairdenken" website also reported on the ban on Thursday. The organizers want to appeal the decision with lawyers. It is hoped that a new assembly will be registered. The website called on people to travel to Vienna anyway "to go for a walk and visit Christmas markets".
