Currently limited operation at Erste Bank

On Tuesday morning, there were massive disruptions in online banking and also in the branches of Erste Bank throughout Austria. As a result, card payments for customers were also only possible to a limited extent. Bank Austria also experienced a technical outage in mid-November.

"Due to technical problems, George, our website and services in our branches are not available or only available to a limited extent. Card payments and cash withdrawals are currently only possible to a limited extent. We are working hard to find a solution," explains Erste Bank on its website.

Not a cyber attack
The technical problem was solved after three hours at around 1 p.m., said a spokesperson for the bank. "A cyber attack has been ruled out."

Problem resolved
Customers had to wait several hours for the technical errors to be rectified. Only the "George" mobile app could still experience login problems for a while if too many customers logged in at the same time. However, this is not a hacker attack.

Similar case at Bank Austria
Bank Austria also experienced a technical problem last week. A pensioner from Vienna had transferred 5000 euros from his savings account to his current account via online banking. Shortly afterwards, however, a total of 5000 euros were gone from his savings account six times. The problems mainly occurred with internal transfers, i.e. from one account to another at Bank Austria.
