34-year-old transfers tens of thousands of euros to fraudsters

Again! This time, a 34-year-old man from Salzburg fell victim to an Internet scam. Over the course of a month and a half, he transferred a mid-five-figure euro sum to Internet scammers who promised him profitable investments. A case of fraud was also reported in Lungau.

The victim was contacted via an internet platform at the beginning of October. The offer sounded tempting: register on a website, invest money and make a quick profit. 

Far from it: after ten transfers and a total value in the mid five-digit euro range, the man wanted to have his first winnings paid out. But the perpetrators demanded a large sum of money for the payout. The 34-year-old became suspicious, went to the police in Flachgau and it quickly became clear that he had been the victim of a scam and filed a complaint.

13,000 euros debited
A 60-year-old man from Lungau was the victim of an internet scam on November 19. The man had been called by an alleged employee of his bank. After allegedly making false bookings to the 60-year-old's account, he was asked to provide his bank access details over the phone. In a subsequent call, the crooks asked the victim to confirm three transactions using a fingerprint to confirm chargebacks.

In fact, more than 13,000 euros were transferred to a German and an Austrian account. The investigation is ongoing.
