Holocaust denier Haverbeck (96) dies

The German Holocaust denier Ursula Haverbeck died on Wednesday at the age of 96. She was popular in far-right circles and had been convicted several times for incitement of the people. In 2019, she was the lead candidate for the "Die Rechte" party for the European Parliament.

Haverbeck also served more than two years in prison in Bielefeld for Holocaust denial. Most recently, the Hamburg district court sentenced her again to one year and four months in prison, which her lawyer appealed. 

Haverbeck's first conviction was in 2004, when she received a fine. The German woman repeatedly claimed that the Auschwitz concentration camp was not an extermination camp and that there was no mass murder there. According to estimates by historians, the Nazis murdered at least 1.1 million people there.

Large movement as a goal
The National Socialist activist ran for the European Parliament in 2019 as a candidate for the "Die Rechte" party. Until her expulsion, she was also a member of the Ecological Democratic Party (ÖDP) and led the association "Heimvolkshochschule für Umwelt und Lebensschutz", which was banned in 2008. Haverbeck cultivated links to right-wing extremist groups and wanted to found a large national collective movement.

Until his death, she was married to former SA and SS member Werner Georg Haverbeck.
