Police caught a wrong-way driver on the highway

A 50-year-old German woman apparently lost her bearings while driving in Linz on Monday. The result was extremely dangerous: the woman was driving in the wrong direction on the Mühlkreisautobahn (A7). Fortunately, police officers caught the wrong-way driver, who surprisingly was not under the influence of alcohol.

It was around 3.15 p.m. on Monday when the Haid highway police noticed a vehicle in the Bindermichl tunnel in Linz driving north in the opposite direction to the correct one.

"Not familiar with the area"
The driver, a 50-year-old German woman, was apparently trying to turn at this point. The woman explained that she had relied entirely on her navigation system and was also not familiar with the area.

Negative alcohol test
As it turned out, the driver had probably been driving the wrong way from Unionstraße onwards. It is unclear why the 50-year-old was driving her car in such a disoriented manner, but a breathalyzer test was negative.

The woman's driver's license was temporarily confiscated and she will also be reported to the police. She is now likely to face a hefty fine.
