Violent collision: two cars hurled into a field

Serious traffic accident in Neudorf near Mooskirchen in western Styria: two cars collided with great force on the L340 at the weekend and were thrown into an adjacent field.

The Mooskirchen volunteer fire department had to be called out on Saturday afternoon after the two vehicles collided violently. Both drivers were injured to an indeterminate degree. Together with the Red Cross, the fire department provided first aid until the arrival of the Christophorus 12 emergency helicopter.

The driver of one of the cars was still trapped in her vehicle and the fire department had to remove a car door using hydraulic rescue equipment. They then proceeded to carefully rescue the accident victim before handing her over to the emergency medical team.

Both casualties were taken to Graz University Hospital for further treatment. Including the subsequent securing and cleaning work, the operation took a total of 20 fire department helpers a good one and a half hours. The Red Cross also attended the scene with two ambulances, an emergency helicopter, three police patrols and a towing company.
