Microsleep: Car driver injured in collision

Serious accident in Tulfes in the Tyrolean district of Innsbruck-Land on Friday! A local driver (77) collided with the car of a 55-year-old Austrian due to a microsleep. Both men were injured in the crash.

The accident happened shortly after 3 pm. The 77-year-old was driving his car in Tulfes on the L9 low mountain road in the direction of Hall. "At the same time, the 55-year-old was driving his car on the L9 from Hall in the direction of Tulfes," said the police. 

Both drivers reduced their speed in the area of a roadworks.

The 77-year-old driver slipped into the oncoming lane due to a microsleep and collided with the 55-year-old's vehicle.

77-year-old transferred from Hall to Innsbruck
"The 77-year-old crossed into the oncoming lane due to a microsleep and collided with the 55-year-old's vehicle." Both men were seriously injured in the collision. They were first taken to Hall Hospital. The 77-year-old later had to be transferred to Innsbruck Hospital. 

Both vehicles sustained serious material damage. The L9 had to be completely closed while the accident was being investigated.
