Letter carrier failed to deliver mail for ten years

A letter carrier in Italy has failed to deliver numerous letters over a period of at least ten years. An official from Cassino in the south of the country became suspicious when more and more complaints were received from citizens who had received reminders for bills that they had never received. When the investigation was launched, the police found thousands of letters in the employee's home.

There was initially no conclusive explanation for the woman's behavior. It is still being investigated whether she also kept parcels for herself and possibly opened them. If so, she would also have to reckon with proceedings for violation of postal secrecy. The letters collected weighed a total of 40 kilograms.

Bills from 2014
The oldest letter that the woman had hoarded was an electricity bill from 2014, according to previous findings. The letter carrier was released from work and will now be held accountable for "misappropriation of correspondence". She is threatened with dismissal.
