Microsleep: hazardous goods truck overturned on the A9

Presumably due to microsleep, a truck driver left the road on the "Pyhrn" near Traboch (Leoben district) on Monday night and overturned. The recovery of the hazardous goods transporter proved difficult and took several hours.

According to initial investigations, the man from Bosnia and Herzegovina may have left the highway at around 2:30 a.m. due to a microsleep. The hazardous goods transporter hit the embankment and overturned to the right, although the driver tried to steer in the opposite direction.

The 30-year-old Bosnian escaped with minor injuries. Fortunately, the truck and trailer, which was filled with bitumen, did not leak any liquid.

Emergency crews tried to recover the accident truck as quickly as possible. A special crane had to be requested for this. The entire operation took several hours. One lane of the Pyhrnautobahn could be used in the area of the accident. A detour was set up via the B113 for the duration of the recovery operation, as the road in the direction of Graz had to be completely closed for this purpose.
