Bomb threat: large-scale operation at school in Zeltweg

After a bomb threat in St. Pölten on Friday morning, another large-scale police operation was carried out a few hours later due to a threat. This time, a school center in Zeltweg (Styria) was evacuated. The all-clear was given in the early afternoon.

A large contingent of Styrian police is currently on duty at a school in Zeltweg. Just a few hours after a bomb threat in St. Pölten triggered a police operation, a secondary school in Zeltweg in Styria was also evacuated on Friday. "Similar to the last few times, a threatening email was received by the provincial police headquarters", reports police press officer Sabri Yorgun. The wording was also similar.

Bomb threats keep investigators on their toes
The operations are part of a series of bomb threats that have affected several Austrian cities in recent days and weeks. Only recently, train stations in Graz, Linz, Salzburg, St. Pölten and Klagenfurt were temporarily closed due to bomb threats.

The authorities suspect that the same perpetrator could be responsible in all these cases. The police take such threats very seriously. "Special forces are currently searching the school, but there is no reason to panic," said Yorgun late this morning. If the perpetrator is found, there could be serious legal consequences, including possible prison sentences of several years for making a dangerous threat or forcing someone to land. The all-clear was given in the early afternoon: no bomb was found.
