“Every child deserves a carefree vacation”

The "Vacation from Poverty" project is being extended: socially disadvantaged children and young people living below the poverty line can go on skiing vacations in winter or have fun in thermal spas.

This summer, Volkshilfe Burgenland launched the "Holidays from poverty" project: socially disadvantaged children and young people living below the poverty and exclusion threshold are given access to recreational and leisure activities that are otherwise often denied to them.

So far, 16 families with a total of 47 children have been able to take a vacation in Burgenland.

Due to its great success, Volkshilfe Burgenland will now release a further 20,000 euros of the project budget and extend the initiative to the winter months into the spring. Skiing vacations, ski courses, day trips and relaxing spa stays, for example at the Sonnentherme Lutzmannsburg, are planned.

"With 'Holidays from poverty', we are creating social integration and giving children and families the opportunity to experience valuable experiences and moments of belonging," says Volkshilfe President Verena Dunst. "Every child deserves carefree vacations and social participation."
