How to fight forest fires with combined forces

First cross-border civil protection exercise in the province of Salzburg with Burgenland participation.

On Friday and Saturday, a large-scale civil protection exercise took place in the province of Salzburg, which was carried out for the first time as part of the EU civil protection mechanism. With the exception of Vorarlberg, emergency services from all federal states took part. Burgenland sent eight firefighters, led by Deputy Fire Chief Harald Nakovich. The delegation was involved in supra-regional coordination and operational deployments.

The scenario of the exercise simulated a large number of forest fires in the Flachgau region due to extreme weather conditions - persistent drought, high temperatures and a foehn weather pattern that had lasted for 24 days.
