75-year-old man goes to prison for castrations

The regional court in Erfurt, Germany, has sentenced a man to a total of three years and ten months imprisonment for allegedly removing men's testicles at their request and in return for payment.

"It was an extraordinary trial, it was also a trial tainted with shame," said presiding judge Udo Tietjen.

The trained lathe operator without any medical training was convicted of seven counts of grievous bodily harm and one other count of assault, the oldest of which dates back to 2015. The witnesses who were heard, who had asked the defendant to carry out the interventions on their own initiative, also found it difficult to speak in court, Tietjen continued. The public had been excluded for most of the trial.

Man confessed
In the reasons for the verdict, it was pointed out that the accused, who is now 75 years old, had confessed to the charges. The public prosecutor's office had previously demanded a total prison sentence of six years and six months, while the defense had pleaded for acquittal. The verdict is not yet final.
