Ländle kickers have no chance against the serial champions

"It could be interesting. They played in the Champions League on Wednesday and will host Manchester City in the top flight next Wednesday. That might be in the back of their minds," was the hope of Klaus Stocker, coach of SPG Lustenau/Dornbirn, ahead of the away game at serial champions St. Pölten. But there was no sign of that in the NV Arena.

Although his ladies kept the game open at the start, the Lower Austrians took a 1:0 lead through Valentina Mädl after a corner kick in the 30th minute, in which the defense and keeper Fanny Söderström did not look particularly good. They went into the break with this narrow deficit.

Strong standards 
Although the serial champions were not overly dangerous from play, they were very dangerous from set pieces. And so it came as no surprise when Slovakia's Mária Mikolajová made it 2:0 in the 61st minute from a spectacular free-kick.

Rita Schumacher then made it 3:0 in the 75th minute, taking advantage of a glaring error in the Dornbirn defense to score. As a result, Stocker's side remain on three points, but have slipped out of the play-off places and are fifth in the table after seven rounds.
