Three new university clinics

Lower Austria trains its own future doctors

The cooperation between the state's health agency and a private university makes it possible: from now on, future doctors can also complete their training in southern Lower Austria. The hospitals in Wiener Neustadt, Neunkirchen and Hochegg are therefore now university hospitals. 

Not so long ago, there was no way around Vienna for medical students from Lower Austria. The high-quality training is now also possible here in Austria - and now at even more locations.

Fighting the shortage of doctors
In cooperation with the Danube Private University (DPU), the hospitals in Wiener Neustadt, Neunkirchen and Hochegg have also been upgraded to university hospitals. "This means we can also train the next generation of doctors for our province in the Thermenregion," emphasizes Provincial Councillor Ludwig Schleritzko (ÖVP).

Patients benefit from this
And Alfred Zens, Chairman of the Provincial Health Agency, sees the upgrading of the three hospitals in the south of Lower Austria as an important step towards continuously improving medical care in the province: "Patients benefit when medical care is always at the cutting edge of science."  

It is pleasing that half of the first-year students who are now starting their training here come from Lower Austria.

Wiener Neustadt as a university town
120 medical students are planned for each year, with lectures being held at the City Campus and the Research Center in Wiener Neustadt. Practical training in psychiatry and orthopaedics takes place in Neunkirchen, in pneumology in Hochegg and in the other specialties with a focus on plastic surgery in Wiener Neustadt.
