Alexandra Popp says goodbye to the national team. According to consistent media reports from Germany, the long-serving captain of the DFB squad has already informed national coach Christian Wück of her retirement.

Popp had already toyed with the idea of retiring after the 2023 World Cup in Australia, but decided to pull on the German team jersey one last time at the Olympic Games. The bronze medal should now mark her end as an international player.

The striker made her debut for Germany in February 2010. In 2016, she won gold with the DFB squad at the Olympic Games in Brazil, and in 2022 she led our neighbors to second place at the European Championship in England.
