Driver (73) crashed into a wall: wife dead

A tragic traffic accident occurred on Saturday in St. Radegund near Graz: a 73-year-old man suffered a stroke while driving and crashed into a wall. While the man survived seriously injured, all help came too late for his wife (71).

A 73-year-old man from Graz was driving his car on a local road towards the center of St. Radegund at around 1:20 p.m. on Saturday with his wife (71) in the passenger seat.

Uncontrolled acceleration
According to the police, the man may have suffered a stroke while driving, causing him to accelerate uncontrollably and crash the car into a retaining wall next to the road. The driver was flown by rescue helicopter to Graz Regional Hospital with serious injuries and admitted to hospital.

For his wife, however, all help came too late: despite resuscitation attempts by an emergency medical team, the 71-year-old woman from Graz succumbed to her serious injuries at the scene of the accident. According to the police, both the man and his wife were wearing seatbelts.
