Carinthian fire brigades help out in the disaster area

The situation in Lower Austria is catastrophic! The recent storm caused enormous damage and even claimed lives. The province is asking for volunteers. Carinthia's fire departments deploy! 

In 2023, it was the other way around, remember the members of the Carinthian fire departments! Due to the rainfall and subsequent flooding in Lower Carinthia, the province of Carinthia asked the Lower Austrian Fire Brigade Association for support. Five large pumps with crews helped for over a week in Carinthia.

Now the colleagues from Lower Austria are asking for support. Provincial councillor and disaster control officer Daniel Fellner gives the go-ahead for the Carinthian KAT platoons to be deployed. The members from the districts of Spittal, Wolfsberg and Völkermarkt are already preparing on Sunday. On Monday, they are deployed to Tulln and help for 24 hours. 

On Tuesday morning, KAT platoons 03 from Klagenfurt Stadt/Land and 04 Feldkirchen/St.Veit follow for another 24 hours. The KAT platoons are each equipped with around 100 emergency personnel and the necessary vehicles from the various local fire departments in the districts. According to the Carinthian fire departments, all-terrain vehicles, pumps and flood protection elements are particularly needed in the disaster area.

Situation in Carinthia 
The province of Carinthia has so far been spared any major disasters. Strong gusts of wind, especially in Upper Carinthia, also caused several call-outs on Sunday. Fallen trees repeatedly blocked roads and crashed onto power lines. As a result, a good 2000 households were without power around midday.
