Residents rescued via balconies during fire

Several residents of a residential building in the city of Salzburg had to be rescued by the fire department on Saturday morning. Heavy smoke made it impossible to escape through the stairwell.

The fire had broken out in the basement of the apartment building. The heavy smoke had made it impossible to escape through the stairwell. The fire department evacuated the residents via the balconies using a ladder.

According to initial reports, one person was taken to hospital for examination. The cause of the fire is not yet clear.
