Vienna: 30-year-old man succumbs to injuries after attack

In mid-August, a serious attack took place at Vienna's Westbahnhof railway station. A Somali man (30) was critically injured in the head. It has now been announced that he has died. The 40-year-old suspect is currently in custody.

The suspect burst into an appointment between the 30-year-old and a friend at Westbahnhof at around 4.30 a.m. on August 19. In the course of this, he punched his victim so hard in the face that the 30-year-old subsequently had to struggle with massive breathing problems and was left lying seriously injured on Europaplatz.

Suspect intoxicated
The intoxicated 40-year-old fled a short time later. The professional rescue team took the 30-year-old to hospital after resuscitating him.

The victim's life had been in danger ever since. The suspect was tracked down with the help of witnesses and arrested a day later. Further investigations are ongoing.
