Duplantis wins show duel against Warholm

Pole vaulter Armand "Mondo" Duplantis has won the show duel in the 100 meter sprint against 400 m hurdler Karsten Warholm. The Swedish double Olympic champion was ten hundredths of a second faster than the Norwegian in 10.37 seconds on Wednesday on the eve of the Diamond League meeting in Zurich's Letzigrund. 

Duplantis improved his best time from 2018 by two tenths. The 28-year-old Norwegian also ran a personal best and, at 10.47 seconds, was two hundredths faster than his previous best time, which he set seven years ago. The idea was born a year earlier in Monaco, when the two Scandinavian experts in their disciplines were discussing who would be faster in the sprint.

Tough betting odds
In front of 3,000 paying spectators, Duplantis took the lead in calm conditions and could not be caught. The defeated Norwegian Warholm will have to compete in the 400 m hurdles in a Swedish shirt on Thursday when his bet is redeemed. The Austrian record over 100 m is held by Markus Fuchs with a time of 10.08 seconds.
