Turkey bombs PKK positions in Iraq again

Turkey has reported that it has carried out new air strikes on positions of the banned Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in northern Iraq. The Ministry of Defense in Ankara announced on Tuesday that 20 targets in various locations had been attacked. 

Among other things, "caves, bunkers, shelters, depots and facilities" used by the PKK were hit and "numerous" PKK fighters were killed.

Turkey repeatedly attacks PKK positions in northern Iraq, which is regularly condemned by the government in Baghdad.

"Eliminate separatists"
It was only on Saturday that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan declared that his country wanted to "eliminate the separatists". These posed a threat to both Turkey and Iraq.

Fighting since 1984
The PKK has been fighting against the Turkish state since 1984 and is classified as a terrorist organization by Ankara and its Western allies. The Turkish army has pushed the PKK back into neighboring Iraq and regularly carries out air and ground missions against PKK positions in northern Iraq.
