Break: Rüdiger is missing from the German team squad

He has agreed with the team boss on regeneration, it is said. Defender Antonio Rüdiger is not in Julian Nagelsmann's first DFB team squad since the European Championship.

There was no further information on the Rüdiger case during the squad announcement on Thursday. Rüdiger's absence is offset by a newcomer to the team: Stuttgart's Angelo Stiller is in the squad for the Nations League games in September.

Hardly any changes
Otherwise, Nagelsmann did not make any significant changes to his squad - despite the retirements of captain Ilkay Güdogan, Manuel Neuer, Toni Kroos and Thomas Müller.

Nagelsmann reduced his squad from 26 players to his actual desired number of 23. Instead of Neuer, Alexander Nübel is included as the third goalkeeper. In addition to Rüdiger, Leroy Sané, who is working on his comeback after groin surgery in Munich, is also missing from the European Championship squad. His club colleague Serge Gnabry was not recalled to the DFB team despite his good early-season form.

It is still unclear who will succeed captain Gündogan. The clear favorite is Joshua Kimmich. Nagelsmann will probably announce the decision on Monday when he reassembles the squad at the team headquarters in Herzogenaurach just under nine weeks after the European Championship quarter-final defeat to Spain. Germany will play Hungary in Düsseldorf on September 7 and the Netherlands three days later in Amsterdam.
