Hobby chef in “height emergency” rescued by turntable ladder

A breeze slammed a kitchen door shut in Schwechat (Lower Austria) - and trapped an amateur chef in the attic apartment. Because he didn't have a cell phone with him, the man had to call for help from the window. The result was a sensational operation.

A minor mishap with major consequences: As a man was preparing dinner in his girlfriend's apartment in Schwechat, a gentle breeze blew the kitchen door shut. When he tried to open it, the door handle broke off - the amateur chef was trapped.

Trapped man didn't have his cell phone with him
Without a cell phone, the gourmet had no choice but to call for help through the open window in the attic. It was not until an hour and a half later that customers in a nearby pub garden noticed the man and called the emergency services. However, because the trapped man did not know the exact address, the firefighters arrived with the turntable ladder.

Police officers then climbed into the apartment from the telescopic platform and were able to open the kitchen door. The incident report states: "This meant that the evening meal could be prepared and enjoyed by the freed resident ..."
