Exciting cycling rest stop on old railroad line

Where the steam locomotive once puffed through the Vellach Valley, recreational cyclists are now pedaling hard. A new cycling rest stop is to be created for cyclists, which will enchant them with glimpses of history. A tenant is already being sought for the hut. 

"We're not finished yet, but the hut is ready," says Harald Sadovnik, Managing Director of Bio-Holzhandels Trockungs GmbH. The company from Blasnitzen near Bad Eisenkappel specializes in trading in old wood. "Historically valuable wood is recycled to create unique pieces," says Sadovnik. The company employs 24 people.

There is also a showroom in Blasnitzen where unique pieces worth seeing are on display. A locomotive once puffed away nearby until 1971. The "steam horse" transported wood at the time.

The R1 cycle path is now located along the railroad line. Here, the memory of the steam train should remain alive. In an old hut that was dismantled in Croatia and rebuilt here. It is to serve as a rest stop for cyclists. The hut has been adapted accordingly and decorated with a picture of the former steam train, the "Vike".

Tenant wanted for hut
The search is now on for an interested tenant. "It could be a nice place for cyclists and our spa guests," believes Sadovnik, who has shown great attention to detail in the planning. For example, parts of the tracks of the former railroad line were integrated into the counter, which was also made from reclaimed wood. However, it will be some time before the work is completed.
