Thousands of tons removed from Innerkrems road

The severe damage caused by the devastating storm in July has been repaired. The Innerkremser Straße is therefore open to traffic again, but in some places only one lane is open for the time being.

In the night of July 22nd, severe storms had severely damaged the Innerkremser Straße between Kremsbrücke and Innerkrems. In places, 80 meters of the provincial road were completely washed away, and the province recorded a total of 35 damaged areas.

"The road construction department has been working flat out to restore the Innerkremser Straße to a passable condition as quickly as possible," says Deputy Governor and Road Construction Officer Martin Gruber, who has provisionally reopened the section between the two Upper Carinthian municipalities to traffic.

18,500 tons and 5500 hours
Over the past few weeks, a total of 18,500 tons of material have been removed by the road administration staff. At times, ten excavators and 20 trucks were in operation. "More than 5500 hours of work were put in during this period," summarizes Gruber, who is not yet able to estimate the exact costs for the renovation work and repairing the damage.

In some places, the road can only be used in one lane for the time being due to the massive damage. It is likely to be several months before the important traffic route can be used again without restrictions.
