A derby scandal at the Carinthian Bundesliga showdown between WAC and Austria Klagenfurt! Hooligans plastered the city of Wolfsberg with numerous stickers of the visiting “violet” team—with razor blades hidden behind them. The police have been notified and will investigate.

The 5,123 stadium attendees, as well as the “Ultras” from the Bundesliga delegation, had just received plenty of praise for their calm and peaceful behavior during the derby at the Lavanttal Arena in Wolfsberg. And now, following the match between WAC and Austria Klagenfurt, the police will have to launch an investigation after all. . .

That’s because in the city of Wolfsberg, a few unknown rowdy fans stuck a large number of Austria Klagenfurt club stickers onto various surfaces. Which wouldn’t be so bad in and of itself, had these so-called “fans” not, in all seriousness, hidden sharp razor blades behind them! “Someone could get seriously injured while cleaning them up—it could end really badly. This really should be reported to the police,” say outraged WAC supporters.

Police to Investigate
The police in Wolfsberg and Klagenfurt have already been notified of this incident and will launch an investigation. The hooligans from the derby now face charges following the opening round of the Bundesliga.

Yet during the game, both the WAC fans and the 800 Austria Klagenfurt supporters who had traveled to the match behaved in an exemplary manner. Defender Nico Wimmer, who transferred from the “Violets” to Wolfsberg, was also treated respectfully on an Austria banner this time. “We had expected something different,” emphasized a Bundesliga delegate.

On Sunday, the Carinthian teams will face off against the Viennese—WAC travels to Austria, while Klagenfurt hosts Rapid.
