Drunk driver simply walked home after accident

A heavily intoxicated car driver caused an accident in Großkirchheim on Saturday night and was thrown out of the car. Nevertheless, the 18-year-old simply walked home to his parents afterwards. 

The 18-year-old from the district of Spittal was driving his car on Apriacher Straße on Friday night when, according to his own account, he tried to avoid a deer in Großkirchheim at around 2.40 a.m. and veered off the road. The car then crashed about 150 meters over a steep meadow. 

"As the driver was not wearing a seatbelt, he was thrown out of the vehicle. After the accident, he walked a few hundred meters home and woke his parents, who called the police," a police officer explained. 

Alcohol test delayed due to pain
The young man was taken to Lienz Hospital with indeterminate injuries. "An alcohol test on site was not possible due to the alleged severe pain," said a police officer. At the hospital, the police finally carried out a breath alcohol test using a breathalyzer, which revealed that he was heavily intoxicated. The 18-year-old will be charged.

The damaged car had to be secured in the steep terrain by the Großkirchheim fire brigade to prevent it from falling any further. The accident also loosened a large boulder. This was secured by the Apriach fire brigade to prevent a possible fall.
