Bomb alarm triggered outside Paris Olympic Stadium

A bomb alert was triggered in the Saint-Denis district of Paris on Friday afternoon. The reason for this was a suspicious object at the athletics stadium.

The affected area was immediately cordoned off and the Saint-Denis - Porte de Paris train station is also currently closed. The police are on site with a special unit to check the object.

Applications now threatened with delay
The stadium was empty at the time of the alarm. However, several athletics competitions were still taking place there in the morning. The first session of the day only ended at around 1pm, with the second evening session starting at 5.40pm.

So the crowds will soon be streaming towards the stadium again - whether the streets can be reopened on time for people to get there seems questionable at the moment.

Not the first alarm around the Olympics
It was only a week ago that explosives were last suspected around the Olympics in Paris. Last Wednesday, a suspicious bag was found between the Parc des Princes soccer stadium and the tennis courts. Just over an hour later, however, the all-clear was given.
