Microsleep: children injured in head-on crash

A terrible accident on Sunday afternoon in the Tyrolean Oberland: because he apparently dozed off briefly at the wheel, a local man (36) drove his car into the oncoming lane in Telfs (Innsbruck-Land district) and crashed into the car of a German driver. Both drivers and the Austrian's two children (aged 2 and 14) suffered injuries

The serious accident occurred shortly before 4 pm. The 36-year-old local man was driving his car on the Buchener Landesstraße (L35) in a westerly direction. His two children, aged two and 14, were also on board. 

Car veered into the oncoming lane
"The man then crossed into the oncoming lane, presumably due to a microsleep, and collided head-on with the oncoming car of the 53-year-old German, who was alone in the vehicle," reported the police. 

All occupants received first aid at the scene from the emergency services.

Both drivers and children injured
Both the drivers and the two children suffered injuries. They were all treated by the emergency services at the scene. The injured were then taken to the Innsbruck clinic and the hospital in Hall.

Both vehicles sustained extensive damage. In addition to the ambulance and emergency doctor, the Telfs fire department and the police were also deployed.
