Salzburg’s fastest schnauzer causes a stir

World Cup fixed starter Stefan Rieser wants to further establish himself in the ski circus. The beard has become his trademark, originating from a bet in 2020. The Pongau native names US boy Bode Miller as his great role model. 

With his distinctive moustache, Stefan Rieser is impossible to miss - whether in ski clothing or in "civilian" clothes. The beard originated in 2020: "Back in October, we made a bet among friends that we wouldn't shave until Kramperltag (5 December, note)," grins the 25-year-old from WSV Dorfgastein. In the meantime, it has become his trademark. "I'm quite happy with it."

Speaking of satisfied: In spring 2024, he had every reason to be happy. After many attempts, Rieser finally secured his ticket for the Downhill World Cup.

"I was very relieved," says the police athlete, who had already competed in two races on the ski circuit. But nothing was fixed. Now there is planning security, the Gastein native can subordinate everything to one goal: To establish himself in the World Cup and be in the top 30 of the rankings at the end of the season.

The 25-year-old cites US legend Bode Miller and his style between genius and madness as a role model. "He just went for it and didn't think much about it. That's ultimately what matters," says Rieser, who also wants to cause a stir. And not just with the fastest moustache in Salzburg.
