ÖSV slalom ace Liensberger surprises as a “pirate”

"What happened to Katharina Liensberger?", numerous worried Instagram users probably asked themselves on Monday. The 2021 slalom world champion posted pictures on Instagram showing her training with an eye patch. An injury or a special training method?

After the 27-year-old Göfner first posted pictures and videos of strength training at the Vorarlberg Olympic Center in her story, she was suddenly seen with a black eye patch over her left eye. This was accompanied by the soundtrack of the pirate blockbuster "Pirates of the Caribbean" starring Johnny Depp.

But Kathi quickly cleared things up. "Don't worry, I'm not training for the next part of the Pirates of the Caribbean film series," revealed the 2021 slalom world champion. It's much more a special form of neuroathletic training. Neuroathletics is based on the assumption that it is not just muscle strength, endurance or technique that determines sporting success, but that the brain also plays an important role.

As part of her sports management course at the University of St. Gallen, Kathi recently met the German Tobi Powalla - a proven expert in this field who also works for FIFA and has now trained with her at the Olympic Center in Vorarlberg.
