Attack with swords in Viennese apartment – intervention

Scenes like in an action movie may have taken place in the early hours of Tuesday morning in Vienna-Favoriten. Two men - 32 and 44 years old - are believed to have got into an argument, which led to an attack with swords. The older man was taken to hospital with injuries to his upper body. 

The attack with the swords took place in an apartment at around four o'clock in the morning. The 32-year-old Czech is said to have attacked the older man with the weapons. The 44-year-old finally managed to escape and immediately alerted the police.

The victim was immediately treated at the scene by the emergency services of the Vienna Professional Rescue Service and taken to hospital with injuries to his upper body. According to the Vienna police, the man's life is not in danger. 

The Czech was caught and arrested by officers in the apartment - the swords were seized. "The background, the course of the crime and the relationship between the two men are the subject of ongoing investigations", said police spokeswoman Barbara Gass. The victim and the suspect have not yet been questioned.
