Civil defense alert declared for Krems!

Heavy thunderstorms swept over the municipality of Krems in Carinthia on Sunday evening and caused enormous danger, forcing the regional alarm and warning center to issue a civil protection alert

The Innerkremserbach, which flows into the Lieser, had burst its banks and swept away masses of debris and tree trunks.

Houses and fire station flooded
A road closure had to be imposed from Kremsbrücke bridge onwards. Innerkrems is cut off from the outside world. Several houses and the fire station in Kremsbrücke were flooded. People remained unharmed.

Residents are advised to go to the upper floors of the houses. Sepp Glanzer, commander of the Kremsbrücke fire brigade, warns: "The situation is serious, the streams are still raging. The damage is enormous, the clean-up work will take several days!" 

Even around midnight, the all-clear could not be given. "The entire village is now under water and the masses of water are simply not getting any less," said Mayor Gottfried Kogler to "Krone".
