Swimming accident in Lake Attersee

Dead swimmer found during boat trip

Scary moment during a family boat trip on Lake Attersee near Schörfling in Upper Austria. A motionless man was floating in the water. The father of the family rescued the swimmer, but there was no rescue for the 73-year-old Regauer.

The parents and their ten-year-old son actually just wanted to enjoy the sunset on the lake and set off at around 9 pm. While still in Schörfling harbor, they discovered a body floating in the water. 

The father of the family jumped into the water, retrieved the lifeless man and began resuscitation on the jetty. But there was no more rescue - the man was dead.

Autopsy ordered
Investigations by the police revealed that the 73-year-old man from Regau had gone to Lake Attersee alone to spend a day swimming. This meant that nobody knew when he had gone into the water and when the swimming accident may have happened.

An autopsy is to clarify whether the 73-year-old drowned or suffered an acute illness, such as a heart attack, while swimming.
