Driver looking for cell phone: cars collided on the A12

Two drivers got off relatively lightly on Saturday morning on the A12 Inntalautobahn in the Tyrolean lowlands after their two cars collided. According to his own statements, an 18-year-old had previously wanted to pick up his cell phone from the floor of the vehicle.

The 18-year-old Turkish man was driving on the A12 near Kolsass (Innsbruck-Land district) in the direction of Kufstein at around 7.30 a.m. on Saturday. He told the police that his cell phone had fallen out of its holder and that he had wanted to pick it up from the ground. 

The young man must have overlooked the car in front of him. He crashed into the rear of the vehicle, which was being driven by a 55-year-old Austrian.

Both men sustained minor injuries in the accident and were taken to hospital in Schwaz by the ambulance service. There was considerable material damage to the two vehicles involved in the accident. There was a traffic jam on the Inntal highway.
