Petition madness! 400,000 for a replay

Germany's bitter exit in the European Championship quarter-finals has caused great anger in Germany, as an online petition by DFB fans shows. A replay is being demanded due to the penalty that was not awarded. The result: an incredible 400,000 signatures have already been collected. However, there is still no chance of success.

By Tuesday morning, the day on which Germany would have played in a possible European Championship semi-final, the online petition on change.org had attracted over 410,000 signatures. An incredible number of supporters, which shows how deep the sting still runs among DFB fans after the penalty against Marc Cucurella was disallowed. In the end, Germany lost 2:1 after extra time. 

A strong statement
"In the 106th minute, a clear handball penalty was not given when Cucurella prevented a clear goalscoring opportunity with an outstretched arm. The referee Anthony Taylor allowed play to continue and the VAR did not intervene for inexplicable reasons. And this was just one of the many wrong decisions," write the initiators of the petition.

They are therefore calling for a replay and have received a lot of support. The mark of half a million supporters is within reach. However, there is still no chance of success. UEFA will not schedule a replay, especially as Spain will face France in the semi-finals on Tuesday evening. But the petition is certainly a strong statement.
