Police seize knives in Vienna-Brigittenau

Shortly after a mass brawl with three injured people in Anton-Kummerer-Park, the police were called out again in Vienna-Brigittenau. They seized two knives and a pepper spray. Several emergency calls had previously been received.

Passers-by had seen several armed people in the area of Klosterneuburger Straße, Anton-Kummerer-Park and Hannovermarkt (20th district of Vienna) at around 0.40 am on Sunday. No crimes were committed. The police then carried out 24 identity checks and seized two knives and a pepper spray.

Connection to the brawl on Friday
The people found are probably connected to the brawl on Friday evening, said police press spokesman Philipp Haßlinger. As reported, Syrians and Russians had attacked each other in Anton-Kummerer-Park on Friday evening. Two young men were presumably injured by shots, one by a knife. Two groups are believed to have arranged a brawl on social media.

They also damaged the cars of five bystanders, with several bullet holes visible.

Police increase their presence
Further background information was still unclear on Sunday. The police have now "significantly increased their presence in the affected area to ensure the maintenance of public peace, order and security." In the event of criminal acts, consistent action will be taken, it was announced.
