Ferlach gets an indoor pool

One problem after another is thwarting the plans for a new indoor swimming pool in Klagenfurt. Ferlach is likely to be quicker: A hall with a 25-meter pool is to be built next to the ice rinks. 

"At the municipal council meeting, we decided to sell 6,000 square meters, which is currently a storage area, to HTC Eissport GmbH. The company wants to build an indoor swimming pool there," says Ferlach mayor Ingo Appe, not without pride. "The concrete construction plans are still being drawn up, but we will probably have an indoor swimming pool sooner than Klagenfurt."

Of course, the project is not as huge as the one in the provincial capital, but it should be implemented quickly and in an exemplary manner.

The swimming pool is to be built next to the second ice rink, where the ice hockey players will be able to complete their swimming training, but Ferlach residents will also be able to swim. "The pool will be 25 meters long because this size can be heated with the residual heat from the ice rinks. The energy would be too low for a 50-meter pool," says Appe.

Construction has not yet started, but the people of Ferlach will probably be swimming sooner than the people of Klagenfurt...

The HTC already operates two ice rinks in Ferlach and a sports hotel in Waagstraße.
