Woman waited in vain for companion

Another tragic alpine death on Saturday in Salzburg! After the accident in Pinzgau - the "Krone" reported - an Upper Austrian (36) also died on the Untersberg. Shortly before the fatal accident, he and his partner had chosen different routes to the top.

A 36-year-old Upper Austrian and his partner climbed via the well-known Dopplersteig. The couple then split up because the man wanted to climb to the summit via the east ridge and his partner chose an easier route.

Once at the top, the woman waited in vain: according to the police, the Upper Austrian fell into a steep rock gully at the first crux on the upper Rositte for reasons as yet unexplained. 

The man from Gmunden was fatally injured. The deceased was rescued by the Libelle police helicopter and his partner was cared for by the crisis intervention team.
