Young Tyrolean dies in alpine accident in Salzburg

Highly tragic! A 26-year-old from Innsbruck died on Saturday morning after a fall of around 50 meters during a training course in Salzburg. The man lost his balance at around 3080 meters above sea level.

On the north ridge of the Großer Geiger in Neukirchen, the 26-year-old lost his balance on a loose block of rock and fell. According to the police, an instructor reacted quickly but was unable to prevent the fall. The rope broke, presumably due to a shearing movement over a sharp rock edge.

All help came too late
The young Tyrolean fell around 50 meters into the depths. The alpinists present provided first aid, but the emergency doctor was only able to determine the alpinist's death. The deceased was rescued by the Libelle police helicopter.
