In rivers, on the coast: Norway stops salmon fishing

Due to a sharp decline in salmon stocks in Norway, fishing has been banned indefinitely in dozens of rivers and along parts of the coast. 

The ban applies to 33 rivers and the coast from the Swedish border up to and including the province of Trøndelag. The stock is so endangered that a ban on fishing is unavoidable.

In the more northerly provinces of Nordland, Troms and Finnmark, however, salmon can still be caught.

Climate change causes salmon stocks to shrink
According to the report, man-made causes such as climate change and the breeding of salmon are suspected to be the greatest threats to salmon stocks.
