Fleeing to his grandmother’s house after a drink-driving accident

Too drunk to drive safely, but fit enough to make his escape on foot: a 20-year-old walked nine kilometers to his grandmother's house while the police, helicopter and firefighters searched for him.

Shortly after 4 a.m. on Saturday, the car of a 20-year-old from the Völkermartkt district in Zell-Schaida left the road and got stuck between trees about three meters below the road. The Zell-Pfarre and Zell-Freibach fire departments had to secure the car.

The driver had already fled when the police arrived at the scene of the accident. Concerned that he might be injured, the fire department, police and helicopter team searched for him.

The wanted man, who was slightly injured, had hidden at his grandmother's house in Bad Eisenkappel; he had walked the nine kilometers. The driver was moderately intoxicated. He has lost his driver's license for the time being.
