Free rides home from summer parties demanded

The police, the state, the transport association and cab companies are campaigning for a safe journey home from summer parties. The campaign was presented on Tuesday.

Police President Bernhard Rausch had the positive figures with him. Despite stricter controls, the number of arrests of drink and drug drivers fell slightly between January and May: by almost ten percent for drink drivers and seven percent for drug drivers. "The trend is pointing in the right direction," says Rausch at the presentation of the "Safely home in summer" campaign.

Under this slogan, the police, the state, the transport association and cab companies are promoting the idea of leaving the car at summer parties after drinking alcohol or not taking it home at all. Erwin Leitner, chairman of the cab entrepreneurs' trade group, wants to talk to the state about free home delivery services for large festivals. In many places there are already cooperations with event organizers, Leitner wants to expand these further.
