Extreme swimmer completes long-distance crossing of Lake Constance

She has done it and set a record in the process: German extreme swimmer Iris Ashmann crossed the length of Lake Constance - and covered more than 64 kilometers in the process. 

The German open water specialist Iris Ashman (60), who lives in Great Britain, reached her destination of Bregenz on Monday evening - by sea.

At 12 noon on Monday, she entered the water 64 kilometers away in Bodman in Germany, and 30 hours later she reached the Vorarlberg lakeshore. In between were countless arm strokes and painful continuous crawling. Ashman proved her stamina.

Although a woman has already completed the longitudinal crossing of Lake Constance before her, Sandra Albrecht's achievement no longer counts under the new rules for the route, as no wetsuits may be worn and it is only permitted to eat and drink in the water. Breaks on an accompanying boat are also not permitted.

Hard training
Ashman has now adhered to these rules and fulfilled a dream for which she has been training for three years. After her arrival at the Bregenz Pipeline, she was overjoyed.
